Disordered Gambling Counselor Training

Disordered Gambling Counselor Training

The Indiana Problem Gambling Awareness Program (IPGAP) has developed a gambling treatment counselor training available through IU Expand. The online training is designed to be self-paced and achieve several learning outcomes. Individuals have the option of taking the entire 30 hour series or taking any of the 20 courses offered. Each course is eligible for 1.5 CEUs.

The courses are delivered by Dr. Deborah Haskins, President of the Maryland Council on Problem Gambling, a licensed professional counselor and IGCC-II, BACC. The courses apply evidence-based research and utilize case-based scenarios. Each course focuses on an important aspect of disordered gambling including scope and prevalence, typologies and subtypes, screening and assessing, harm reduction, family intervention, special populations and recovery.

IPGAP is part of Prevention Insights at the IU Bloomington School of Public Health. IPGAP is funded with a contract with the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction, Indiana Gamblers’ Assistance Fund.

Prevention Process Facilitator Workshop

For many prevention professionals, July starts a new year. If you are new to prevention or would enjoy a refresher, this workshop is created for you!

This intensive event is designed to help local prevention process facilitators become familiar with prevention science fundamentals. Participants can expect to utilize the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) as an opportunity to apply prevention science and support local efforts. If grantees, coalition members and preventionists have not had the opportunity to attend a formal SPF training, this event will support their learning and solidify concepts, processes and mechanisms that underly the work associated with a State or Federal grant or contract. The technical assistance provided in this online workshop is
designed to help attendees with community mobilization, strategy implementation, and deliverables.

Hope Sullivan-McMickle will facilitate this workshop. Hope is a Training and Technical Assistance expert who has provided science-based prevention training, education, and coaching, as well as assessment and evaluation support for coalitions and state prevention systems. Hope’s skills in organizational transformation, systems change, and community leadership development will instill new facilitators with inspiration and foundational leadership skills. Her years of expertise in community-level behavioral health and substance abuse prevention efforts, combined with relevant and timely community-level application, makes this workshop one to attend!

Participants are encouraged to refer to, or have handy, community resources such as  data reports, past assessments, funding proposals, or strategic plans. Attendance both days is not mandatory, but encouraged as the content and topics build throughout the workshop. Youth Program Resilience Fund

Youth Program Resilience Fund

Lilly Endowment is launching a fund of up to $20 million to help youth serving organizations in Indiana address some of the challenges they face because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Youth Program Resilience Fund (YPRF) is designed to offer support to a variety of organizations so they can better serve the needs of school-age children and youth (ages five to 18).

Youth-serving organizations from throughout the state are encouraged to apply for funding that will help them cover a range of expenses they will incur or have incurred because of the pandemic. Expenses could include, among other things, the purchasing of sanitation supplies, personal protective equipment and materials needed to promote social distancing; the cost of modest site modifications so organizations can deliver safe programs and services during the pandemic; or the costs related to improved technology, increasing staff and engaging consultants to strengthen support for youth and their families.
