Did you ever see a notice like this?
Attend the DMHA/IPRC SPF Training with CSAPâs Central CAPT?
Does this make sense to you? If so, you are not alone. Every profession has its own set of abbreviations and acronyms, and if you arenât familiar with the lingo, it might as well be a foreign language.
As we work on the new Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) approach to prevention planning, and work to expand those who are working with us in the community, we as prevention professionals need to be aware that not everyone knows what we are talking about. Our shorthand may just be confusing, and many will not let us know that they donât understand. We need to take the responsibility and leadership to be sure that everyone we are working with understands our language.
Below are a few of the key terms. Use this list to build upon, copy, and include in your program training materials. Itâs a good way to assist you in getting your staff, community and volunteers to understand your program and goals.
