*Ayahuasca is a drink prepared for religious and quasi-religious rituals. One ingredient is usually, but not always, DMT (derived from a plant), and the other is an MAOI,(Monoamine oxidase inhibitor) without which the drink is not hallucinogenic.
DMT, is a schedule 1 substance that has no effect when taken orally unless combined with an MAOI or similar drug to activate it, but which can be smoked or inhaled for a brief high.
